Regular Passports
Ordinary passports
are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to citizens living in Indonesia
and to other foreign nationals who have a residence permit in the country.
Currently, ordinary passports are available in two formats: non-electronic and
electronic.
The electronic
version of the ordinary passport is not printed with the signatures of the
bearer and the issuing authority but instead, it depicts their digital
signatures embedded in the digital information system. The electronic chip also
includes ten fingerprints and a digital face photograph.
In addition to this,
the cover of ordinary passports is also printed with different national birds
and scenes highlighting the beauty of Indonesian nature. It is available in a
dark green colour until October 2014 and a turquoise green color since second
quarter of 2015.
Other passports
There are several
other types of passports that may be obtained in Indonesia. These include:
A Service Passport
This is a special
type of passport for a person or family member who is on official travel and
will be traveling to foreign countries for business purposes. It is issued by
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and can be obtained from the nearest diplomatic
mission.
A Migrant Workers
Passport
For prospective
Indonesian migrant workers, this passport is issued by the immigration office
in the same province or city of their domicile. It can be obtained individually
or collectively through Indonesian migrant worker placement companies.
The application for a
new passport can be done at the immigration office in the same province or city
as the applicant’s domicile, by presenting the original or copy of the
applicant’s existing passport and KITAS/residence permit. For a new passport
for a minor, an additional document should be submitted such as a letter of
recommendation from the Provincial or District/City Manpower Office. This
letter must be signed by the authorized official and should list the
applicant’s name, place of birth and parents’ names.
